While in Hobby Lobby a few months ago, I ran into a friend of mine. A friend that doesn't update her blog like ever. I think she forgot the password to log-in. ☺ Anywho...We chatted for a few seconds and I told her I wanted some of those jars, but can't pay the price. She told me that she had found a tutorial online on making your own jars. She quickly told me how she did made them, but I wasn't really picturing what she was saying. So I haven't thought twice about our conversation...UNTIL a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this blog while blog hopping one night. O. M. G.....I felt like I had hit the blog jackpot!!! What an awesome blog with great inspiration and ideas, and there it was--the Apothecary Jar Tutorial!!!!! YES!
So do you know what happened next?! Well, let me tell you....I immediately made a Hobby Lobby run to buy my supplies and went to work! BINGO....Finally I have some apothecary jars! I ♥ them! I will be making a second set (a little different) for my bathroom really soon.
Thanks to the wonderful ladies at Shabby 2 Chic for the tutorial and inspiration!
Another project that I was able to mark off of my craft to-do list last week was my
Dry Erase/Key holder. Wade has been telling me for a while that we need something to hang our keys on. We are bad about just coming in and putting our keys anywhere and everywhere. Then when we go to leave, we are searching high and low for our keys.☺
I have also been wanting a dry erase board for a while too. A lot of times Wade and I are in passing, going in different directions, taking kids here and there, so I thought a little dry erase board would be perfect for quick little notes to each other or reminders, etc. I already have too many chalk board trays in the house so that is why I wanted the dry erase board.
So, I decided to combine the above two things and make it one.
I forget to take before and during pictures. But I started with an old wooden frame that was in the attic. I painted it a greenish color. Waited for it to dry, the applied a coat of crackle medium. Waited for that to dry and then painted a coat of Burnt Umber. I then took a piece of burlap and hot glued it to the cardboard that was in my frame. Then I put my glass back in my frame, then the burlap and closed the frame. Next, Wade added the key hooks for me. I tried for the LONGEST time to put these hooks in by myself, but it just wasn't happening so he got the drill out and we made little holes to screw the hooks in. And I finished it off with a piece of twine as my hanger.

I do like how it turned out, but I would like a different frame with more detail b/c I think the crackle effect would show up better, but I was determined not to have to buy something for this project. Hopefully soon, I will run across a dirt cheap frame at a garage sale or something and I can re-do it, but for now, this one will just have to work.
And who is excited that today is FRIDAY???? I know I am! I have a busy but fun weekend ahead! TGIF! ☺

cute ideas! I also wanted the jars for my counter in the kitchen. I found them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for $7-10 each! They are great. I couldn't pay the $40 either. that's crazy! so if you are looking for more, check out those stores.
